FUJISAWA, JAPAN

The historic town of Fujisawa grew up as a temple town around Yugyoji Temple which was constructed in the 14th century. During the Edo period, Fujisawa prospered as one of the 53 staging posts along the Tokaido Highway which linked Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto. Later on, Fujisawa became a thriving center of trade and commerce with an agricultural zone stretching out in the north, as well as a sightseeing and resort area.

With rich green scenery and a warm climate, the city is conveniently located 30 miles from central Tokyo, just an hour’s train ride from Japan’s capital. The area, which is often called the “Miami Beach of the Orient” is one of the major resort spots in Japan, thanks to its pleasant scenery and marine sports facilities. Post-war reconstruction has turned Fujisawa into one of the leading commercial and industrial cities of the region.
